2023: “Obidients” marching for Peter Obi are hungry Nigerians paying N1000 – Dino Melaye

Dino Melaye, the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic People (PDP) campaign committee, has dismissed the march of one million people for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in Abuja at the weekend.

According to him, the so-called Obi supporters were merely hungry Nigerians who paid N1000-N2000 and gathered from all parts of Abuja and Nigeria in general to call themselves Obi supporters.

Melaye stressed that the forthcoming presidential election was between the presidential candidate of the PDP and the other parties, adding that the presence of Peter Obi in the recently concluded governorship election in Osun State did not make his party a challenger.

“When you go to court, they will say Federal Government versus Dino Melaye and others, and in this particular case, there is Atiku Abubakar and others, including APC, Labour Party, SDP, NNPP – they are all others in this regard,” Melaye said on Arise TV’s morning show

“And I want to tell you that to gather a crowd is just to raise money. Mobilisation is very, very cheap in this country.

“People are hungry. If you go to Nyanya and Mararaba, people are invited in buses from Lugbe and every other part of the country to stand and say they support the election…. let them go to the polls.

“I think Peter Obi was in Osun. He spoke in Osun and we saw the result of the Labour Party in Osun – 2700 votes – while the PDP counted four hundred thousand votes…. so it is not about commercial mobilisation of the people.

“If you go to Mararaba today and say you need 5000 people, they will gather at a whistle and pick up their N1000 or N2000. It is not the street fight that will decide the votes.

“We are talking about proper elections and Nigerians know that Atiku speaks on the issues. We are not on hype movements.”
