2023-Pro-Obi women’s groups in Nasarawa plead for peaceful elections

Women groups in Nasarawa State supporting the political ambition of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have called on residents of the state to shun all forms of violence and elect credible politicians into office in the 2023 general elections.

The spokesperson of the support groups, Cecilia Anzaku, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia on Thursday in preparation for the visit of the national women leader of the Larbour party  to the state, said violence had marred the outcome of previous elections in the state, hence the need to work for peaceful elections in 2023.

She further narrated that the 22 women support groups with about 78,000 members in the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State would receive the LP national women leader, Dudu Manuga, ahead of the commencement of the presidential election campaign on September 28, 2022.

She expressed confidence that Peter Obi and other candidates of the party would emerge victorious in the 2023 general elections as Nigerians were tired of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party governments at the federal and state levels.

She said, “The leaders of the 22 women support groups are here to plan how to receive the national women leader of the Labour Party to come to the state before the presidential campaign begins. We have about 78,000 members across the state and we are ready to give her a warm welcome.

“Another reason for today’s meeting is to urge residents of the state to shun any form of violence as we approach the campaign season for the 2023 general elections. Violence in the past years has prevented us from electing credible leaders into office and we do not want to see a repeat of that in the coming elections.

“Nigerians are tired of the ruling political parties because they have failed us. Schools are closed because of insecurity, food prices in the market have become too high and so many wrong things are happening in the country. We all want our country to be better, so I am confident that all Labour candidates will win the 2023 elections.”

In her welcome address, Hajara Dalhatu, the State Women’s Commissioner, thanked the leaders of the support groups for the confidence they have placed in Peter Obi and the other candidates of the party and promised that their efforts will not be in vain.
