APC Chieftain (John Mayaki) in Edo blames Buhari for Osun defeat

John Mayaki, a chieftain of the ruling  All Progressives Congress in Edo State has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for the party’s loss in the Osun gubernatorial .

In the July 16 governorship election, the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Paelectionrty (PDP), Senator Adeleke Ademola, defeated the incumbent governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola.

Reacting to the ruling party’s electoral defeat, Mayaki said Buhari has neglected his responsibilities as APC chairman, adding that the president tolerates anti-party activities among party members.

According to him, the president does not seem to care if the party collapses under his watch.

He said, “The president’s non-interference by the notorious ‘federal power’ represents a good development for the country’s democracy, but it still does not excuse the observed “neglect of his duties as a party leader who should be at the forefront of efforts to unite the ranks, enforce loyalty and extend political control.”

“The anti-party activities of senior APC members, governors and ministers under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration are responsible for the party’s electoral misfortune in Edo and Osun states.

“The party’s poor reward system, if left unchecked, could have a negative impact on the party as much as the president’s “I don’t care” attitude as a party member. The president is the leader of the party, and he doesn’t seem to care if the party collapses on his watch.

“Under President Buhari, APC governors in Edo State have worked against the party, much like persons in his cabinet are being blamed for the loss of Osun State. But Mr. President is not lifting a finger to rebuke these party saboteurs, instead he is signaling tolerance which further encourages them.”

He, however, urged party members in Osun State to learn the necessary lessons from the defeat and work harder to support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential eletcion.
