Police officers in Ondo State have arrested the leader of a five-man robbery gang, Promise Ekenwa, who robbed a couple and took 18 barrels of palm oil, cash and their vehicle.
According to police, the five suspects stormed the victim’s house and robbed it.
The suspects, who escaped after the robbery, were said to have taken away two phones, cash amounting to N500,000 and other items.
Vanguard learnt that forensic investigation following the report was said to have led to the arrest of the leader of the gang in Lagos.
The suspect led the police officers to the hideout of the stolen vehicle and it was discovered that the license plate number and color of the stolen vehicle had been changed.
He reportedly confessed to being part of the gang of robbers that robbed the couple in Ondo State and that they fled to Lagos after the operation.
Other suspects took flight after learning that their leader had been arrested by the police.
The spokesman for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, said when asked that the suspect was assisting the police with necessary information.
Odunlami said the suspect was arrested after a forensic examination by investigators in Lagos.
She added that the suspect will be charged to court soon after proper investigation.
