Breaking news from Ogbomoso town in Oyo State: the duo of Olugbenga Owolabi and Rachael Opadele who were recently kidnapped have been killed by their captors.

The motorcyclist who took the man who was going to pay the ransom into the bush was also killed….

On the victims, Owolabi is a hotelier who recently returned to Ogbomoso while Opadele is a student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) but was working in the hotel because of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

When they were kidnapped: The duo was kidnapped on July 29, 2022 at the hotel in Abaa area of Ogbomoso.

What the kidnappers did: According to sources, the kidnappers had earlier demanded ransom for the release of the victims.

However, it was learnt that the duo was killed by the kidnappers on the evening of Tuesday, July 03, 2022, after a sum of N5 million was demanded as ransom.

Narration by a source: a family source, who did not want to be named, said on Wednesday, 03 August 2022, the motorcyclist who took the man who wanted to pay the ransom to the bush was also killed.

The source said that the motorcyclist was shot in anger, while the ransom bearer is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The source said the ransom was taken to the bush along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin road in Igbon area and that the kidnappers counted the money to ensure it was the agreed amount.

Why the kidnappers were angry: It was learnt that the kidnappers got angry when they noticed the presence of soldiers in LAUTECH area.

It was learned that the soldiers rushed to Ogbomoso on Tuesday, August 02, 2022, to provide security as waves of kidnappings increased in the area.

The source added that the matter was reported at the Igbon Police Division.

“They killed them. They demanded ransom and we sent someone who promised to deliver it.

“We saw a motorcyclist who said he could go. He said he would collect five thousand naira and we paid.

“But after the kidnappers collected the money, they killed them. I don’t want to mention my name because I don’t want anyone to look for me. We reported the case at Igbon police station.
