The organizers of the prestigious Nigerian music awards ceremony “The Headies” have disqualified the popular singer Portable as a candidate.
The organizers pointed out that the singer had attracted negative attention from the Nigerian police and the public.
In a statement released Tuesday, organizers also referred to the police’s criminal investigation into the singer’s recent offenses.
Part of the statement read, “We regret to inform you that due to the numerous accusatory statements made by Habeeb Okikiola, also known as ‘Portable,’ and the incessant negative attention Mr. Okikiola has recently attracted from the Nigerian police and the public, the organizers of the Headies have decided to disqualify Mr. Okikiola as a nominee for the upcoming 15th Headies Awards.
“As Mr. Habeeb Okikiola is under investigation in connection with criminal activities, he is hereby disqualified from both award categories of the upcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards to be held later this year.
