The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kaduna State, Senator Suleiman Uthman Hunkuyi, has predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is already on its way to losing the elections with the passage of the same ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He said the APC has failed Nigerians with its economic policies and Nigerians will get back at the party by ousting it from power in 2023.
Addressing journalists in Kaduna on Wednesday, Suleiman Hunkuyi said if one looks at the APC’s profile vis-à-vis the NNPP, the APC has already lost the elections.
“I am speaking not only as a politician but also as a realist. I told you that you don’t win elections with structures, you win elections with goodwill…. Go back and ask the people, APC lost elections because it lost the confidence of the people.”
“The PDP ruled this country for about 16 or 18 years. After that, they came back and apologized for coming out. Whether people are ready to return to PDP today or not, you know better.”
“But like I said, we had three parties, two candidates. Now we have additional parties with maybe additional candidates. But some parties don’t have candidates, even if they have, they are moles.”
“I have run for governor of Kaduna State once in my life. All my other attempts have been about getting a ticket, which the problem of internal democracy in these parties has not allowed so far.”
“Few people determine who gets a ticket and that is part of the albatross of the PDP today. The emergence of people-oriented, ticket-bearing members, the NNPP as a credible alternative platform.”
“We have decided to make the structure of the NNPP fresh and new, take it to the people, make whoever you want your chairman, your secretary, your organizing secretary, your women leader…. come all, make whoever you want in this district, in this local government to lead the party. ”
“That’s the way it was when we came to the primaries. We didn’t have that kind of rancor, that kind of injustice that we saw, where a sitting Senate president under one party goes and lynches a ticket that belongs to somebody, and they come back and tell us that’s democracy?”
“We have seen it. We have seen Wike lose the ticket. Was it a straightforward election? That is the PDP. That’s why I told you that structures don’t win elections, the people determine who wins elections, and that’s goodwill. Hunkuyi, Kwankwaso, the NNPP, we are banking on our goodwill.”
On the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket, the NNPP gubernatorial candidate said, “That’s the interesting part of politics. First of all, Hunkuyi will not vote for a Muslim-Muslim ticket in Kaduna State. I will not do it because as a detailed politician, I see and recognize the cosmopolitanism of my beloved state. I recognize the interests of Muslims and Christians. It is not the only way, so why should I go that way?”
“I want APC to lose the elections and they have taken the path of losing the elections. As far as I am concerned, it helps my situation, my party and the Nigerian people because you cannot ruin the economy of a nation the way APC is doing and come with religious fanaticism today. It will not work, it cannot work, it is not correct, it will not pass.”
“The fact is that today, if you are Muslim or Christian, you need to eat, and in order to eat, you need food. Food on the table for Muslims and for Christians is the same price. A bag of corn costs 15 thousand, a bag of fertilizer 32 or 35 thousand. That is indeed the economics of the APC and that should tell you whether they come with Muslims-Muslims, whether they come with Christians-Christians, whether they come with Muslims-Christians or whether they come with Christians-Muslims, the APC will lose the elections.”
“Because no matter what happens, for Nigerians, that is not the first question on determination. The first question to answer is how did you manipulate our Naira? From 198 Naira per dollar when APC took over in 2015, how did we arrive at 740 Naira per dollar today? Let the Christians answer the question, let the Muslims answer the question.”
“The truth will testify to everyone what everyone has done. The APC has bankrupted Nigeria and Nigerians will change their will and pay the APC in the same coin,” he said.
