The Indigenous People of Biafra has expressed satisfaction over the recent court ruling in favor of its lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
Ejiofor is the lawyer for the currently imprisoned leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
The secessionist group also praised the judges for delivering justice to all IPOB cases heard in all courts in Nigeria.
Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court in Anambra had on Friday awarded Ejiofor N102 million in damages for gross violation of his fundamental rights and the cost of the litigation.
The court also awarded him N5 million for the cost of his Toyota Camry, which was burnt by security forces.
Ejiofor, in a fundamental rights suit numbered FHC/AWK/CS/56/2021, had dragged the Federal Government to court to challenge the invasion of his childhood home in Oraifite, Anambra State, on June 6, 2021, by security operatives in which his aide was killed.
In a statement Monday, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Officer, Emma Powerful, commended the judiciary for not yielding to the “repressive” tendencies of the federal government to bring justice to IPOB members.
Powerful said the only “crime” Ejiofor committed was that he was a defender of IPOB and Kanu.
He said the Attorney General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Mallami, and Justice Binta Nyako, in collaboration with the Federal Government, have not been forthcoming to the world about the crime Kanu committed that led them to abduct him from Kenya and extraordinarily transfer him to Nigeria and keep him in the DSS Solidarity Prison till date.
He alleged that just like Ejiofor, every other IPOB member has always been harassed, intimidated and threatened and lost persons and property worth millions of naira just because they are “Biafrans.”
The statement said, “We welcome the recent judgment in favor of the IPOB lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, whom the Federal Government and its compromised security agencies attacked and murdered his personal assistant, kidnapped others and set ablaze his personal car and country home in Oraifite Ekwusigo LGA, Anambra State.
“We commend the judge who, regardless of intimidation, delivered a landmark judgment against the Federal Government and its compromised security agencies, ordering them to compensate him for the evil they did to him.
“IPOB will not forget to pay tribute to Justice Ademola of the Abuja High Court who in 2015 upheld our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, that he did not commit any crime against any person or nation. This honorable judge granted the unconditional release of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in 2015, which exposed the injustice that the current Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja is trying so hard to cover up again against Nnamdi Kanu.
“The Attorney General of Nigeria, Alhaji Mallami, and Justice Binta Nyako, in collaboration with the Fulani-controlled Federal Government, have not come out to tell the world about the crime of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu that led them to abduct him from Kenya, extradite him to Nigeria and keep him in the DSS solidarity prison till date.
“It is important that everyone knows that Judge Binta Nyako is totally biased in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
For her, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is a Biafran and not a Fulani must be tortured and humiliated into submission by the Fulani government.
We want the world to ask Binta Nyako why she is still holding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in solitary confinement at DSS with her endless court postponements.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB are being persecuted by the Nigerian government just because they have a different political opinion. We have not committed any crime known to any law in the world.
“Let the Biafra opponents understand this, Biafra, through a UN-supervised referendum, is what we demand and we must get that no matter how many Biafrans they kill or jail.”
