The Edo Police Command on Wednesday rescued Godwin Aigbogun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ward 9 Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo, who was kidnapped on Monday.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, in Benin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aigbogun was abducted on Wednesday while returning to his village from his farm in Ologbo-unu.
According to Iwegbu, the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, upon receiving information of the abduction, directed operatives of the command’s crack team and anti-kidnapping and cyber crime unit to aggressively comb the area and carry out robust patrols to possibly rescue the victim.
“When the kidnappers realized they were being pursued by the task forces, they yielded to the pressure, left their victim unharmed, and fled into the bush.
“To this end, the commissioner warns all kidnappers and their sponsors to either leave the state or face the wrath of the law as the command will rid the state of their excesses.”
The commissioner urged the public to continue to cooperate with the command by providing credible and timely information on criminals and their allies.
