Reconciliation :- PDP board asks Atiku and Wike camps to work together

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Dr. Walid Jibrin, has called on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s teams to sheathe their swords.

He said it was important for the camps of both politicians to complete efforts to resolve the internal crisis in the party.

The BoT chairman made the remarks in a statement Thursday. Jibrin noted that it is time for both camps to view the internal crisis as a “misunderstanding” rather than a “problem.”

The statement said, “I wish to call on all members of the PDP and all Nigerians to remain calm and never create bad blood and confusion about the state of our party. All efforts are being made to bring about reconciliation between Wike, the party and the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“What is happening now should never be classified as a problem but a misunderstanding within the party. In this period leading to the 2023 elections, we should focus on how to win all the positions to be contested and seriously abide by the provisions of the party constitution.

“My urgent advice is that we should strongly support the current reconciliation committee that has been set up to solve all the problems,” he said.

“After that, the executive committee, which is the highest consultative body of the party, will give more encouragement, which will lead to greater success of the PDP.

The PUNCH reports that Wike’s team has set a condition for peace talks with Atiku representatives on Friday (tomorrow).

Sources in the governor’s team told The PUNCH on Wednesday that Wike’s men would insist on the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, at the meeting as a condition for the talks to proceed.

However, it was revealed that Atiku’s delegation had promised to reject the demand for Ayu’s resignation.

The PUNCH had reported that the rift between Atiku and Wike began after the governor’s ambition to become the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections fell through after Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was named Atiku’s running mate.
