Two unemployed men were on Monday arraigned before an Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding a trader of N11,000.
The police charged Mohammed Abubakar, 48, and Thompson Ola, 42, of Karmajiji village, Abuja, with common fraud.
Counsel to the prosecution, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that sometime in September, the accused persons entered the plaintiff’s shop and picked up three bottles of perfume valued at N11,000 with a promise to transfer the money electronically.
The offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Justice Hassan Mohammed granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each to reside within the jurisdiction of the court with the bailiff and the police to verify their address.
Mohammed ordered that the surety’s identity card or driving licence be kept in the court.
He adjourned the case to December 22 for further hearing. (NAN)
