Members of the Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, University of Lagos branch, are currently protesting the sudden suspension of their strike by their leaders.
The leadership of the SSANU/NASU JAC had in a statement Saturday called on all members nationwide to resume the strike today, but members of the UNILAG branch protested the suspension of the strike.
On Wednesday and as we went to press, SSANU/NASU UNILAG members carried various placards reading, “We are fed up with SSANU General Secretary Adeyemi Peters and Mohammed Ibrahim, they must go!”, “We are not public servants.
The Joint Committee of NASU and SSANU started a national industrial action on March 27, 2022 and ended it on August 20, 2022.
It asked its members to resume service on Wednesday, August 24, 2022,
Some members of the JAC of SSANU and NASU said they were not informed, adding that a congress should be held before the suspension of the strike.
A former Chairman of SSNAU, UNILAG, Mr. Oriwaye Adefolalu, said the JAC of SSANU and NASU failed to call off the strike to put pressure on the Federal Government to fulfill its constitutional obligations without taking its members to their respective branches.
He said, “I am not someone who can deceive you, there are documents to prove that the incumbent leadership of SSANU is not honest. At first I thought they didn’t know what they were doing, but they do.
“All they want is their personal gain. The situation is getting worse by the minute. I am 100% convinced that the suspension of the strike was orchestrated by Minister of Education Adamu Adamu to save his job. What Adamu did was brainwashing and smearing their hands”.
