What happened between Tinubu’s wife and me – Dele Momodu

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and Editor of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, on Friday recounted his experience with Senator Remi Tinubu, wife of the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, during the burial of APC chieftain, Kemi Nelson, in Lagos, saying he chose Nigeria over friendship.

In a terse statement posted on his verified Instagram page at @delemomoduovation, Momodu said, “Only two persons, apart from photographers, witnessed what transpired between me and Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday at the funeral service of Chief Kemi Nelson at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Before some people add salt and pepper to the matter, I must tell you exactly what happened….

“Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Dr Tunji Olowolafe and I came in at about the same time and went to greet my dear sister, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. When she saw me, we exchanged our usual pleasantries and then she asked me, “Bob Dee, so you are not going to campaign for my husband?”. I smiled and remained very calm before replying, “Your Excellency, I am in the PDP…” She obviously didn’t find it funny and told us about the past I shared with her husband and I tried to reassure her.

Anyway, I went back to my seat and thought about what had happened, “Before the PDP primary, I was repeatedly asked by journalists if I would leave the PDP if I did not win the election, and my answer was NO. So, if I got the PDP ticket, I would resign from APC for Tinubu, the answer is NO.

“I joined the PDP because the APC took Nigeria to Golgotha. APC candidates promise to continue Buhari’s ‘good works’! I joined the PDP to oust the APC from power and for that, I needed a strong opposition party. I had preached to my younger friends that only an established party like the PDP can achieve this in 2023.

“That remains my conviction. I practice what I preach. Those who disagree are in other parties and I respect their opinion and wish them well. I am in the PDP.

“I love Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We have really come a long way back. I love Professor Yemi Osinbajo. I love Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.… And all my APC friends…. But the APC has done too much damage to Nigeria.

“I will do my best to support and encourage our PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to do the right thing in our party and rid our beloved country of the vestiges of oppression, religious intolerance, poverty, terrorism, infrastructural decay, economic boom and unemployment.

“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
